I’ve been following Australia’s decision to ban social media for children with great interest and, if I’m honest, a pinch of hope.
By raising the age of consent for data protection to 16 and even restricting access to YouTube (a platform so many of us teachers lean on for classroom resources), the country is setting a striking precedent.
The article below is well worth a read. It’s a helpful reminder that one of the roles of materials writers and educators is to cut through the noise, curate what’s worthwhile, and guide students towards using multimedia in ways that are safe, thoughtful, and enriching.
